However, Cigar still had to prove himself in two significant races: the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park and the Breeder's Cup Classic at Woodbine.
On October 7, 1995, Cigar, who had not lost a race in a year, made his appearance at the Jockey Club Gold Cup. The race was held at 1 1/4 miles at Belmont Park in New York City.
