The study revealed that some participants increased their cigar smoking frequency during the pandemic. One participant shared, “I’m smoking more because I’m bored and stuck at home. It’s something to do.”
However, others reported smoking less due to financial constraints caused by the pandemic. One participant stated, “I lost my job due to COVID-19, so now I can’t really afford to buy as many cigars as I used to.”
Additionally, the study found that social aspects of cigar smoking, such as smoking with friends at cigar lounges or events, were severely impacted by the pandemic. Many participants reported feeling isolated and missing the social interactions associated with cigar smoking.
This study highlights the unique experiences of Black young adult cigar smokers during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important to consider how marginalized communities may be disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and its related consequences, including changes in cigar smoking behaviour.
When it comes to cigar etiquette, there are several customs and practices to keep in mind. For example, giving another smoker a light from your cigar is considered an insult in 19th century Havana. Additionally, cigar smokers should avoid “chomping” or biting the end of a cigar, as this can damage the wrapper and affect the taste of the cigar.

Shot glasses can be used to hold small amounts of water, which can help to maintain appropriate humidity levels in a humidor or travel case. Placing the shot glass inside a clean Tupperware container with your cigars and sealing the container tightly can prevent your cigars from drying out.

This includes a cigar cutter, which is used to remove the cap or head of the cigar, and a lighter or matches.
